That deer was stone dead before it hit the ground and the bullet that finished it was a 300-grain Remington .45/70 hollowpoint fired at a distance of 75 yards, from a Marlin 1895G Guide Gun. There's a lot to like about Marlin's 1895G. The first thing that grabs your attention is how small this little powerhouse is. It sports an
11 Oct 2017 Hi -i am playing with the idea of buying one for backup/bush gun. Can not decide(more of a want then a need) Any experience-pros or cons? Ammo selection-heavy recoil-maintenance-scope . etc. Thank You.
26 Dec 2002 After reading so much about how bad the recoil was, I expected to get kicked in the shoulder by a horse I had last shot a 45-70 when I was about 12 years old and remembered the kick. I recently .. The modern Marlin 1895 guide gun is not related to the 1895 Marlin and was designed for smokeless.
Marlin and Henry lever action .45-70 Guide Guns Compared. In addition, as I have found over the years, the .45-70 Guide Gun speaks with such authority that it is often my first choice when other rounds would do just as well. The butt of the Henry has a substantial vented recoil pad and sling swivel studs are provided.
27 Sep 2010 I'm 15 I'm 5'11" I weight around 130 and I'm shooting the same gun with 405 grain sjfp at 1350 and I don't have a problem with it I'm drilling a 4" square A quick google search will tell you that a 45/70 using a relatively standard 350gr round will produce more than double the recoil of a run of the mill 30-06
17 Feb 2013 I've been eyeing a 45-70, but those little Marlin lever guns look so light that I could only imagine the recoil makes it a "no fun" gun to shoot. Not to mention muzzle blast from hell. I don't have the "guide gun" but I have the cowboy which some folks say is harder to handle. Now I load it pretty mild with a 400
30 Oct 2009 45/70 Guide Gun Recoil. I have heard that recoil from these rifles can be punishing. I seem to be missing something. I have shot Leverevolution 325 gr, Remington Express 405 gr, and Federal Power Shok 300 gr and. I have not noticed any more recoil from this rifle using this ammo than any other of my
7 Nov 2007 I have a Marlin 45-70 Guide Gun that is ported. The recoil is far less than my .308 or my 300 WSM. I have limbsaver pads on both the .308 and .300 and not on the 45-70 and it is still considerably less. I agree with Mooseman, it is definitely more of a "push" than a slam. I think you would enjoy the 45-70,

16 Jan 2010 It's really the weight of the gun and the load used. I have shot a Sharps .45-70 rifle with a rather heavy barrel and the recoil was mild. I have also shot a Marlin "guide gun" and that thing had a crazy recoil to it. To be honest, I'm not a fan of hard kicking long guns, but to me the .30-06 doesn't have a bad recoil
