11 Nov 2011 Considering how many 2.5 vw's were sold in North America, the number of issues are comparatively small. Every part on that car has an associated .. If I have the timing chains, guides, and tensioners replaced, will that get rid of the chance of the infamous chain stretch issue? Should I replace the gears?

Well as a bit of a thank you to the 2.5l community I am doing a write-up for doing timing and clutch. 22 Jan 2013 I just picked up a 2007 Jetta last weekend, nice upgrade from my 01 jetta GLS I had. Anyway I got a pretty good deal on it and its got a pretty loud ticking to it at idle. It goes away when its reved up and you cant really hear it from inside the car. But outside the car at idle its pretty loud, sounds like a diesel.

21 Jan 2014 The upper can be replaced with the engine in the car but the lower can not. The trans has to come off. The 05-07 2.5's have. Timing chain guide/tensioner issue.
