28 May 2006 startx didn't work, and neither did the second suggestion, but judging from the install part of the sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop command, looks like the GUI did not install by default on the server version.I'm watching open office unpack now, at 4:45 AM Sunday morning. This rocks, and life is good.
Hi - Can someone help me setup a GUI on a fresh Ubuntu 16.04 server I've taken the following steps: 1) Setup droplet 2) sudo apt-get update 3) sudo So I run 'startx' and I get the following message: If you get into any problem while SSH-ing, make sure you have installed xauth on your local machine!
25 Jun 2014 After it loads, I am not seeing a GUI interface, and am presented with the command prompt. How do I I get the following error message (pages and pages of it) "E: Failed to fetch us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/x/xs . 1) either go to the x-server with the command "startx" [without the quotes]
3 Oct 2013 After I updated the drivers for my video card and restarted, Ubuntu booted the terminal instead of the graphical interface. startx and sudo startx doesn't work. xorg --configure doesn't work either and sudo Xorg --configure does the same.
