Journey to the Center of the Earth is no masterpiece to be honest but it's better than i actually remember it plus both Josh Hutcherson and Brendan Fraser did a pretty good job in the leading roles and despite some cgi problems, a slow pacing and some over the top perfomances from a few cast members here and there this was a watchable and good family adventure. (7/10)
This is a great movie to go to as a family. My kids LOVED the movie and were very excited when they came out. Their ages are 2,4,and 6. My husband also enjoyed it but we have never been much of a fan of Brendon Frasier. The images in the movie were amazing but the dialog wasn't the best. We all enjoyed the 3D part of this movie very much but wouldn't have liked this movie as much without it. I was happy to see a movie that was PG that actually seemed PG. There wasn't anything in this movie that I was upset for my young kids to see. All in all I would say if you have children then take them to this movie but I wouldn't go see it as an adult without kids I think it's a kids movie.
If the 3D here is better than average, SLIGHTLY, the rest of the movie brings it way, way down--not quite to the center of the earth, but at least a good six feet under.
Although Journey to the Center of the Earth (Voyage au centre de la Terre) (1864) was written by French science fiction writer Jules Verne [1828-1905], the movie doesn't actually follow the book. The basic premise of the movie is that Jules Verne's books actually happened and are not just works of fiction. The actual book, Journey to the Center of the Earth, is used by the main characters as a guideline for their own voyage. No, it is actually only in 3D where theaters have a RealD digital projector. So, IMAX does not present this film in 3D. Otherwise the movie is also available in 2D at normal theaters. The story is essentially identical, but the 3D version was shot using a slightly different script to emphasize its 3D effects. The 3D version is also rated PG-13 (for some bloody sci-fi violence), in contrast to the PG the 2D version received. a5c7b9f00b
