Three women, detectives with a mysterious boss, retrieve stolen voice-ID software, using martial arts, tech skills, and sex appeal.
Based on the popular 70's TV show, three cute chicks work for the mysterious "Charlie". They are the female 'James Bonds'' of our time. They get to blow stuff up, kick the crap out of people, and wear really tight clothing, all whilst trying to retrieve stolen software and balance in high heels.
You have to give Drew Barrymore credit for trying to pull this movie off,but I was bitterly disappointed.I should have been aware of what I was in for by the TV previews but I was looking for something closer to the original series.That show was a bigger success once they ditched Farrah and left her by the roadside,but then it tried to struggle along without Kate. This movie, though, was too full on the girl power issue; I'm sorry,but I can't be the only one who doesn't think Lucy Liu the McBeal tagalong and Cameron Diaz are anything but sexy. Drew is a wonderful peice of whimsical talent,but she's out of her element trying to pull this farce together. Bill Murray's incredible comedic talent barely pulled this movie together for me,but my face was stuck in a Calvin-and-Hobbes grimace wondering how these three so-called female detectives got involved in this James Bond-scale premise.If I could have picked Drew's gun-toting buddies,I would have perferred anyone from Gabrielle Carteris,Alyssa Milano,Sara Michelle Gellar or even that "Out of this World" babe Maureen Flannigan.I would even have appreciated a peice of acknowledgement to Charlie's former employees Kris,Kelly or Sabrina.I'm sorry, but this peice of fluff is just an insult to my tastes.
I don't understand why a lot of people didn't like this movie. The fact is, if you didn't like the main point of the TV series, or you don't like the main concept of the movie, you shouldn't see the movie! It was very colorful (to represent that its based off of the original TV series), it's very well thought, and it's good for entertainment! I loved this movie because they really made it seem similar to the TV series in different ways.
Yes, some of it may not make the best of logical sense, but it captures comedy, action, and romance. It is a fun movie and really interesting to keep your eyes glued to the screen! The acting is great, the script is well-written, and the direction of the director is really well done! 10 out of 10!
Too bad the action scenes rarely rise above standard kung-fu comedy, diluting the film's otherwise considerable entertainment value.
