Slightly different than "Batman: The Animated Series." The series takes place approximately three years after the last episode of Batman which ran on Fox. Dick Grayson has grown up taken the costumed identity of Nightwing, with Tim Drake taking over as Robin.
The further and darker adventures of Batman with a new Robin, a closer association with Batgirl and the previous Robin now as Nightwing.
The show is by and far worse than the previous Batman. The animation is much worse,the drawings lazy. All the new designs (except for the Scarecrow) are lazy, too square or too cartoonish. They cut corners with the coloring making everything black. The joker used to look so twisted and menacing, now he has no character. Tim is annoying and way too cartoonish, and Batman looks as if he was drawn entirely with a straight edge ruler. And would somebody please kill Batgirl? She has no pace here.
Picking up where "Batman: The Animated Series" left off, Dick Grayson is now Nightwing, Tim Drake is now Robin, Barbara Gordon is still Bat-Girl, and Bruce Wayne is still Batman, but now sports a costume similar to his 1940s counterpart rather than the more common one with the yellow circle against the bat insignia.
Not a bad continuation, but not nearly as good as "Batman: The Animated Series". Stories a bit more rigid and not as engaging as before. Animation's not as life like either.
It had its moments, though not many. The voice actors still held up their end of the bargain though. You gotta love what Kevin Conroy does with Batman.
One of the more memorable episodes had a guest spot from Superman where the Man of Steel masqueraded as Batman while the real deal was missing in action, captured by Brainiac and used as a pawn in the mad robot's quest for world domination.

Some sources have placed Gotham City in the state of New Jersey; however, this cannot be considered definitive. In the context of Batman: The Animated Series, the second (1993-1994) season episode "Avatar" shows a map that places Gotham City in the location of the real-world New York City. In addition, the direct-to-video animated movie SubZero (1998) gives Barbara Gordon's street address as Gotham City, NY; and gives a ZIP code (10025) and telephone area code (212) that are assigned to New York City.
The current DC Universe version of Gotham City is actually a small island connected to the mainland by a series of bridges and tunnels. The east and south sides of Gotham face the Atlantic Ocean. The city is further divided by the Sprang River (named for Dick Sprang) on the northern end and the Finger River (for Bill Finger) to the south. Tiny Blackgate Isle to the south-east is home to Blackgate Maximum Security Penitentiary. Blackgate is replaced by Stonegate Penitentiary in the animated series "Batman" (1992) and its spin-offs. a5c7b9f00b
