Nov 3, 2014 These antibodies have clinical significance because of their association with thrombosis, recurrent fetal loss, neurological problems, and cutaneous manifestations. Accurate diagnosis is important considering the potential use of long-term anticoagulant therapy because of the high risk of recurrent thrombosis.
One of the conclusions of the subcommittee meeting on Lupus Anticoagulant/Phospholipid dependent antibodies, held in Geneva on 2007, was the need to update the guidelines on Lupus Anticoagulant (LAC) detection [1]. Particular emphasis was given to several aspects discussed in this official communication.

Dec 2, 2016 This adds a further layer of complexity to LA identification and several guidelines with broad but not complete agreement are available to guide best practices [4–7]. The main interferences for each LA assay type are shown in Table 1. Table 1. Main interfering factors in lupus anticoagulant assays affecting

The diagnosis of APS is difficult and relies on the association of clinical symptoms with the laboratory detection of antiphospholipid antibodies (APA) and Lupus Anticoagulants (LA).

This manuscript updates the guidelines on lupus anticoagulant (LA) detection. Several aspects from patient selection to the test itself are discussed in an attempt to minimise inappropriate test requests for LA, establish some modalities for blood collection and guide physicians on which tests should be performed and how
