Telescope collimation can be scary for an astronomy beginner, but it shouldn't be. These 8 simple steps will take you from collimation virgin to pro.
The removal results in the need for re-collimation afterwards of course, but this is done with the Laser-Colli™ MARK III in no time. Read your telescope instruction manual for the correct procedure to remove the main mirror cell. Most manuals contain this in the maintenance part "Cleaning The Main Mirror". Nearly all designs.

28 Nov 2012 Many collimation guides are heavily loaded down with confusing details. Why? I'll let you in on second secret. If you like playing with lasers and fiddling with knobs more than viewing the night sky, well, you're probably better off reading someone else's collimation instructions. I'm here to get you up and

8 Jun 2015 Follow our beginners' guide to collimation and make sure your reflecting telescope is tuned for the task. A Cheshire eyepiece or laser collimator will certainly help make this step more straightforward – simply make sure that the centre marker is on the crosshairs of the Cheshire eyepiece or is illuminated
except, perhaps, as a quick check to see if the optical elements are at least in gross alignment at the start). 2. Laser collimator (not useful unless perfectly collimated itself, possessed of a small beam diameter, and not accurate enough for primary mirror collimation unless used with a Barlow lens, but quite useful in the dark.
I have not covered collimation with a laser because my own experience has been lasers seem to create more problems than they solve as they also require collimation which isn't always possible with some low cost lasers. Lasers generally only work well in telescopes which have a high quality focuser with minimal 'slop'.
31 Jul 2006 I recommend marking it with a piece of electrician's tape. Don't make it too small — a ?-inch-diameter (or even slightly larger) spot works well. As long as it is smaller than your diagonal mirror, it will not affect your telescope's performance. If you plan to use a laser collimator, make a hole in the center of your
