David Haller is a patient in a mental hospital. He has been there for several years now and life is pretty much uneventful. Then one day a new patient, beautiful Syd, arrives and he is immediately smitten by her. Little does he realise how his life is about to be turned upside and him discover special powers that he never knew he had.
David Haller is a troubled young man diagnosed as schizophrenic, but after a strange encounter, he discovers special powers that will change his life forever.
Legion - X-Men mutant styled melodrama Is a Decadently Inventive, Aesthetic Dream which is superb, and the pilot in particular is an all-timer, but the whole thing is so aesthetically fresh that I could see myself continuing to watch it even if it suddenly became dumb as hell, just to see what new storytelling trick showrunner Noah Hawley and his collaborators have up their puffy magicians' sleeves.There are long single-take action sequences where six or seven things are happening at once and you have to decide what to look at, soundless outbursts of telepathic mayhem scored to operatic pop and rock, and (yes, really) a dance number. The kitchen scene is just amazing and everything is just so amazingly drafted,that you are just glued to your seat at the end of the pilot and waiting for another episode. Legion will be another amazingly packed series.
I'm noticing a trend that channels have really improved their writing and overall cinematography. I think it helps with competition from Netflix, Hulu, and HBO since TV viewers seem to be more picky now and the onslaught of unending cop shows seems to have finally slowed down (I hope I didn't just jinx that) to a bearable trickle.
This show treats mental illness well and as someone who has suffered from hallucinations and delusions in the past, it evokes a similar feeling. Confused memories cutting in and out, bright lights, quite whispers in the background, nightmares and dreams alike blending into reality-it ain't a fun time and then sometimes you see beautiful things too in ways that you doubt others could even imagine. Just as something as simple as the night sky and stars turns into something breathtaking.
I (obviously) like the two episodes that have come out so far quite a bit and am loving that there is something so unique on TV. Would definitely recommend if you're looking to watch something different.
