I now use the Meade Pictor 201XT autoguider and gave up on manual guiding (though I still do it a little here and there). I use a B&L 80mm f10 maksutov guide scope with losmandy DR125 rings (super stable). On the pictor, I use an exposure time of 4 seconds and have been able to easily guide on 7 to 8th mag stars.
17 Jan 2007 I dunno. I have a couple of them here but haven't fiddled with them beyond hooking them up and making sure they work. I suspect they were pretty wonderful back in the day when folks took photos on film and had no PC or laptop near the telescope. With a PC handy, it's just easier to set up a guider when
Also, it is parfocal with the Meade Pictor 201XT autoguider. This means that if you use the 201XT as an autoguider you can focus with this eyepiece, and then replace it with the 201XT autoguider and have the 201XT be very close to properly focused, a real time-saver with CCD autoguiders. Back to Astrophotography .
I keep hearing negative reports about this autoguider, although I understand S&T gave it a positive review. I have a line on a used one fairly cheap. I'd appreciate hearing from someone with some experience using this CCD camera as autoguider in film astrophotography. Also, has anyone used it for CCD imaging? Cliff.
Meade 10" LX-200 Telescope - Helpful Hints for Astrophotography. I am using I found it useful to make a few tweaks to ensure the telescope's ability to handle astrophotography. I have taken 3 hour photos (The Cone Nebula photo shown earlier is one) using the Meade Pictor 201XT autoguider that are guided perfectly.
A couple days ago I started a search for autoguiding capabilities after I learned that I needed an additional cable, in addition to a proper guide camera - in order to do automated guiding on the After a brief conversation, by sometime next week I should be receiving a Meade Pictor 201XT Autoguider.
Celestron and Meade LX SCTs have an input jack that accepts electronic position correction signals from a dedicated CCD camera called an autoguiding camera. The 201XT (shown here on the left) cannot be used for astrophotography while the other three can, but in all cases the CCD chip is really too small for that,
***SOLD*** - Meade Pictor 201XT CCD autoguider - STI focusing eyepiece for the 201XT (model# STI-201) - Lumicon extension tube for achieving focus (allows for about 3" of slide movement within your 1.25" guidescope focuser or off-axis guider port). $275 shipped (within the continental U.S.) Includes Pictor-to-LX200

This is a primer on using the ETX as a guide scope with a 201XT, 208XT, or 216XT autoguider. This primer takes advantage of the ETX's flip mirror system to find, focus, and center a guide star. Meade 9mm Illuminated Reticle eyepiece.
