Presta valves are a lot narrower and are commonly found on higher end bikes with narrow rims. They are a little trickier to inflate as they use a manual locknut to open the valve for inflation. To inflate a Presta valve you'll need a regular air pump and a special adapter. These can be purchased for about a dollar at your local
As opposed to Schrader valves, which resemble car tire valves and are more common on U.S. bicycles, Presta valves require a pump with a different connector than Schrader valves If your pump is a frame-mounted manual model, hold the end of the pump connected to the valve in one hand while pumping with the other.

11 Sep 2017 A Presta valve is a long, thin stem often found on the tires of high-end bikes. These valves work with a manual lock nut, as opposed the spring found on the traditional Schrader valve. Bike stores sell air pumps that can fit both valve styles or just one valve type. Inflating a tire with a Presta valve is similar to
Insert the valve stem, with its installed extender, into the valve hole. 6. Install the tire, and slowly inflate to the manufacturer's recommended pressure. If you are using an extender with a valve, tighten the top nut after inflation to prevent leakage. 7.
Since the stem on the presta is a lot narrower, it allows for manufacturers to make narrower wheels and tires. They tend to hold air better than Schrader valves. If you don't have a bicycle pump that accommodates Presta valves (most allow both nowadays), you could just screw on an adapter and inflate it using the pumps at

Those valve stems are too short for those deep deep rims you've got on there. You can tell just from the photos that the valve stem isn't sticking out far enough from the rim for the pump to fit all the way on it. Hence, it's not contacting the valve enough for you to inflate your tires.

6 Jul 2015 If you ride a road bike, the Presta valve (above) is pretty much the only type of valve you'll need to worry about dealing with. So here's a handy guide to all things tyre inflation that'll help to clear up any ambiguity surrounding the subject and have you fully inflated and ready to ride in no time
