When a Yakuza boss named Anjo disappears with 300 million yen, his chief henchman, a sadomasochistic man named Kakihara, and the rest of his mob goons go looking for him. After capturing and torturing a rival Yakuza member looking for answers, they soon realize they have the wrong man and begin looking for the man named Jijii who tipped them off in the first place. Soon enough Kakihara and his men encounter Ichi, a psychotic, sexually-repressed young man with amazing martial arts abilities and blades that come out of his shoes. One by one Ichi takes out members of the Yakuza and all the while Kakihara intensifies his pursuit of Ichi and Ichi's controller Jijii. What will happen as the final showdown happens between the tortured and ultra-violent Ichi and the pain-craving Kakihara?
As sadomasochistic yakuza enforcer Kakihara searches for his missing boss he comes across Ichi, a repressed and psychotic killer who may be able to inflict levels of pain that Kakihara has only dreamed of.
OK I love everything horror from the bad 'b' movie to the high budget Blade type flicks...this was so much fun! It had gore that was used just enough to flip you out but not enough to GROSS you out. Loved the dual lead characters as well. BUT I would NOT watch it in dubbed American, be real and select the DVD and read the subtitles like a REAL movie fan, if not you miss a LOT. If you're in the mood for something that can take you for a ride and not leave you behind twisting your head saying "What did we just watch?", this is it.A lot of Japanese flicks leave too much dead time in between action/movement this one was timed just right.
Am i a creep if i think a movie mostly about sadism is awesome? You be the judge. I thought this was the most disturbing movie iv'e seen in a long time, and that's what makes it great. Not trying to ruin it, but how many movies have you seen where a man cuts out his own tongue for pleasure???? Not many i bet. There is also some action too, which makes this movie an awesome movie for anyone to see. It gets confusing at times...but other than that...its a gang movie with a serial killer and a sadist...how fun! the end will leave some questioning... Why did he just stick needles in his ears....well....watch...think really hard...and I'm sure you will figure it out...i did.
The torture is strictly for kicks, which spoiled this for me, but less skittish viewers may enjoy this as a stylish and tightly wound genre piece.
Several scenes containing violence against women had to be cut for the British release. In the US, the film was released in a R-Rated version, which was cut by 11 minutes, as well as in an uncut unrated version. The R-Rated has been cut by roughly the same amount of time as the German version. Unlike the German version, however, they did not cut whole sections of the movie in the R-Rated. More scenes with sexual content are missing, though. For example, the film title, forming from a pool of sperm, was removed completely.
In HongKong the movie was released in a cut version only even though it received the highest rating: CAT III. Nearly 17 minutes were cut for this version. a5c7b9f00b
