28 Nov 2011 The best I can find out, the full-length guide rod was adopted for the 1911 pistol by competition shooters around the time gamesmen began to take over IPSC competition. I have found it interesting to ask those who use the device to explain just what it does to improve the function and/or accuracy of the
2 Mar 2011 What, if any, are the real advantages of installing a full length guide rod in a full size Colt 1911. I drank the Kool-Aide (as espoused in Dillon.
The only (perceived) advantage, for a full-length guide rod is it prevents the recoil spring from bending too much/jumping out of its track. Bought my first 1911 in 1980. Been shootin' them for a while. Never had a spring bend too much or jump out of the track. Barrel above it and frame below it seem to keep it
I disagree. I shoot single stack 1911 in USPSA and have had short GI guide rods bind and break recoil springs on more than one occasion. So, a full length guide rod does in fact give you a functional benefit. I would never run a GI short rod in a 1911. However, use the right one. Either a one piece STI style

9 May 2010 This is a discussion on Full length Guide Rods In 1911s For Carry??? within the Defensive Carry Guns forums, part of the Defensive Carry Discussions category; Hello, . In spite of all the claims made about their benefits, IMO the shok-buffs and the full-length guide rods solve problems which don't exist.
14 Mar 2008 and I personally only see disadvantages to the full length guide rods. I think they are one of those things were someone looked for a solution to a problem that did not exist. I think the original designers of the 1911 had it right and the full length rod just makes the gun harder to maintain while giving no real
1 Jul 2016 Whether a full length guide rod (FLGR) has benefits over the "GI guide rod" or standard guide rod, are subjective to a large part. The obvious leading thought is "full length" is better than not full length, is promoted by some manufacturers. The primary benefit, if any, would be keeping the recoil spring from
The One Piece Full-Length Guide Rod will make your 1911 operate and cycle smoother. The One Piece Full Length Guide Rod replaces your stock recoil spring guide without pistol modification. Assembly and disassembly are the same as with stock components (however a bushing wrench is required).
You will notice spring guide rods and bolts also operating on the rods as tracks to minimize wear on the receiver. The same concept applies to the 1911. Operating the slide on the spring guide rod minimizes uneven wear on the frame rails, and allows the pistol to operate smoother.
