During the Vietnam War the U.S. Army brass decides to create a special unit called the Tunnel Rats. Their main mission is to clean-up the Viet-Cong network of tunnels found in the Cu-Chi district outside the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon.The tunnels have become a major nuisance for the U.S. Forces stationed around and inside Saigon. From these tunnels the Viet-Cong can launch devastating and unexpected attacks on any nearby American base as well as on Saigon itself. After the attacks the Viet-Cong forces disappear into the extensive network of tunnels as fast as they appeared, leaving the pursuing Americans empty-handed. The first Tunnel Rats units arrive in the Cu-Chi district in 1968 and they are special-trained to fight hand-to-hand combats underground. They can only rely on a flashlight, a knife and a pistol to try to flush the enemy out. The tunnels, varying in size and length, are booby-trapped with mines and grenades, punji sticks, tripwires, poisonous snakes and enemy snipers. Arriving with his unit of Tunnel Rats Lieutenant Vic Hollowborn is trying to make some sense of this complex and nightmarish task.
During the Vietnam War [1959-1975] a special US combat unit is sent out to hunt and kill the Viet Cong soldiers in a man-to-man combat in the endless tunnels underneath the jungle of Vietnam. Suicide squads of a special kind.
I liked it, the quality the acting the sound all good, but who wants too watch a movie where almost everyone dies in the end, death death death the entire movie, killing off almost the entire cast is dumb. I know that war is 90% of what just happened but the point of a movie is too show entertaining and vivid clips, if we wanted too see something like this we would watch a history documentary. Just like Steven Kings The Mist everyone dies in the end, its pointless good acting, good plot just a good movie but directed like crap, doesn't leave much room for a part two, and 95% of part 2 movies with none of the original cast in it blows "Starship Troopers 2 for example"
Writer/director Uwe Boll's war drama takes place in the Cu Chi jungles of Viet Nam circa 1968. There is no rule book, no play book for war...especially this one. Armed with handguns, flashlights and knives, Sergeant Vic Hollowborn(MIchael Pare) leads a combat unit into underground warfare with the goal to eradicate the Viet Cong resistance forces burrowed effectively in their narrow and dusty domain. Hand to hand battle not for pride...but survival. Interesting, but nothing real special. Pare is a believable bigoted leader. Others in the cast: Nate Parker, Wilson Bethel, Brandon Fobbs, Brad Schmidt, Jane Le and Scott Ly.
The movie was shown in US theaters in a cut R-Rated version and is partially sold as such on DVD there as well. More popular, however, is the "Unrated Director's Cut" called original version. The cuts that were made do not resemble the typical MPAA-like adjustments with single frames removed but have been made rather brutal, resulting in jumps in both video and audio of the movie.
