From ILLUSTRATOR at the top of the window go to > EDIT > PDF PRESETS > IMPORT > Navigate to the PDF Preset file that you downloaded > HIGHLIGHT PDF PRESET FILE > OPEN. PDF Preset is now loaded into Adobe Illustrator.
Note: If “(modified)" follows “[Press Quality]" in the Adobe PDF Preset list, an option other than the default has been selected. In this case, the PDF Preset will appropriately display as “[Press Quality] (modified)". In Illustrator and Photoshop, creating a PDF is accomplished by saving the file as a PDF (not exporting):.
In the dialogue box select Adobe PDF as the File Type, enter the name of your file and click save. In the Adobe PDF dialogue, under General select Illustrator Default as the Adobe PDF Preset. Under Compression, make sure that you are not downsampling anything. Ensure each dialogue box reads Do Not Downsample.
Choose File>Save As, select Illustrator PDF (.pdf) from the Save As Type drop-down list, and then click Save. I save PDF versions of my Illustrator files dozens of times daily, and everysingletimeI have to manually go find and select the correct option in the PDF dropdown menu. Illustrator has never had a way to change the default PDF setting the way InDesign has, and it needs it!
