A military vessel on the search for an unidentified submersible finds themselves face to face with a giant shark, forced to use only what they have on board to defend themselves from the monstrous beast.
But it failed miserably with the crew not even sporting proper uniform, insignia, haircuts , protocol and mishmash of ridiculous situations. Do any of the seaman actual know how to handle a weapon? How did 3 detainees escape!? The shark probably got paid the best for his death scene as no one could shoot straight or hit people standing in the open with firearms! Or know how to call in for serious backup! This is the type of movie you root for the end to happen sooner , no no even sooner!
I have seen bad movies and movies where there were no competent technical advisors but Megalodon takes the cake. There are so many errors in how Navy personnel were depicted that I'm not really sure where to start. Obviously the major error was continually calling the Lieutenant "Commander", as if no one knows that those are two vastly different ranks. The overweight Admiral obviously had not visited a barbershop in a long, long time and had his hat adorned with an oversize shiny chrome eagle that kind of negated the wear of a camo uniform. When the Admiral referred to the sailors as the "best soldiers" he had ever served with I was flabbergasted. The use of scale model, undersized, M-16 carbines made it obvious that the production budget was very low. That plus the fact that none of the weapons ejected empty brass was exacerbated by the fact that the dust covers never even flipped open or that empty magazines need to be occasionally swapped out (of course that's hard to do as most of the crew didn't have any spare magazines). The writing and acting throughout was BAD, especially when the Lieutenant/Commander had a screaming fit. Not to belabor the point that the movie was hokey (with a capitol H) but the closing scenes where the ships crew leaves in lifeboats because the shark was trying to sink the steel ship really stretches the imagination...If I could I would rate this movie as a high school attempt at movie making.....
