Hi, I recently set up my Xbox One, and connected Smartglass, but I can't change channels when I am watching my cable TV through the Xbox One. Is this because I don't have the kinect? And if so, is there any way around it to save me 150 dollars? Besides changing it with my cable providers remote,
12 Aug 2015 You have to tell the system which brand of cable box so the Xbox/Kinect knows which frequency to use to control the cable box. I have been using it since launch without issues, we actually have 2 set up in our house with no issues. It controls the cable box and our AV receiver in each room all via voice.

Change volume without Kinect. For those who do not have the kinect. It would be nice to be able to use the Xbox one media remote to control volume on the TV without the need of the Kinect. 21 Nov 2013 You can't change channels with the Xbox One. The infrared blaster the system uses to send commands to your TV and set-top box is built into the Kinect, so while you can see what's on in the OneGuide, you can't actually change channels with it. You'll have to use your old set-top box remote to manually
