The film is relatively short, but the pace is very slow. Any attempts at a joke are signaled in advance, which makes it all rather pointless. The humour is pretty low as well (think getting hit on the head, bare bottoms, and poo). I half-chuckled three times or so - that's it.
It's a mystery they didn't work more on the script, as the action scenes look fairly expensive. It should have been better, but as it is now they really must have been scraping the bottom of the barrel. [1/10]Although it has been referred as a "total disappointment", I feel the need to admit that they are totally wrong. Yes, it may seem a little stupid every now and then, but in the most of times, succeeds in the combination of action and comedy with some parts that will provide a full-time-laugh. Rowan Atkinson at his best persuades really makes an impression and John Malkovich -Oh, my God, he has rich hair!- drives people crazy -in the good way of meaning- with his English-French accent. The screenplay is written in an exceptional way of style and I don't see the reason for not giving this movie a shot. It may change your night.On its own modest terms, this romp delivers.No. In practice, the Queen has no power, acting merely as a ceremonial head of state with most of his/her powers exercised by the government. In theory, she has certain powers - to refuse to dissolve Parliament, to appoint anyone she likes as Prime Minister, dismiss a Prime Minister and his/her Government, to refuse to give the Royal Assent to a Bill, and to refuse the "Queen's Consent", where direct monarchical assent is required for a bill affecting the prerogative, hereditary revenues. But the idea that the monarch can arbitrarily seize land from its owner is fictional. No, Johnny English is derived from a series of Barclaycard advertisements in which Atkinson played a bungling superspy named "Richard Latham". Bough's character is also carried over from the ads (although played by a new actor), and many jokes are recycled from the advertisements into the film.
