The tough biker Harley and his no less tough cowboy friend Marlboro learn that an old friend of theirs will lose his bar, because a bank wants to build a new complex there and demands 2.5 million dollars for a new contract in advance. Harley and Marlboro decide to help him by robbing the corrupt bank. They rob the Bank transport and get hold of an amount of a new synthetic drug. Now they are targeted by criminal bankers.
Two lone riders and childhood friends, the rough and silent Harley Davidson and the ragged sun-baked cowboy Marlboro, assemble once more when they learn that their favourite hangout and the place where they grew up, the notorious Rock 'n' Roll Bar and Grill is facing imminent foreclosure. For this reason, against the preposterous demands for a new contract, the two lifelong buddies in unflinching determination to win back the bar, they will decide to hold up the corrupt bank's armoured car, unbeknownst to them that its cargo is not money but a new lethal and highly experimental street drug: the Crystal Dream. Now the bank wants it back and they are unstoppable. Is everything lost for Harley and Marlboro, the two well-meaning but amateurish thieves?
In a version of "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid" made for the nineties, this buddy-movie finds Mickey Rourke and Don Johnson in some of their most unwatchable work. Harley and Marlboro rob a bank to save the bar in which they love to get drunk, only to find they've accidentally stolen mob dough, and naturally, lots of one-liners and violence result. The attempted character-depth conversations between Harley and the Marlboro Man atop a billboard and elsewhere are boring and cheesy, while the action takes up the rest of the film. However, the film is easily comparable to "Butch and Sundance"...the latter was great, while this is pointless.
I watched Harley Davidson & The Marlboro Man recently and I figured it would be some corny macho movie but as it turns out, it happens to be a great movie. We see our characters Harley (Rourke) & Marlboro (Johnson) in 1996, Harley returns to Burbank to his hangout only to find that the bank is seizing the property so Harley and his buddies decide to do something to save their bar. Great one liners and almost every character is named after a tobacco product, motorcycle and a brand of alcohol, the highrise scene was great as was the rest of the movie, so if one night you just want to crack open a beer and watch an action packed movie, then this is the one, 9 out of 10 on my scale!!!
Due to the usage of a butterfly knife two scenes had to be cut in Britian in order to obtain a BBFC 15 rating. This censored version was later released on VHS whereas all cuts were waived for the DVD release which is also rated BBFC 15. a5c7b9f00b
