is there an app, or worst case a series of apps. that will allow me to view multiple PDFs at once and allow me to switch between them? running. the pdf's in a tabbed browser that embeds the pdf (rather than opening a separate program)? Dolphin HD has a pdf viewer plugin, could you open each in a tab?
There was a time that for every pdf file you opened on an android phone each pdf file had its own recent app tab. Now for some reason these "geniuses" thought it was a great idea to have only one pdf file open at a time. So opening one pdf file will replace any previous pdf files might have had open. Yeah

10 Jun 2013 Your tablet comes with a file manager. it may be called "File Manager" or "My Files" or something close. It's much like Windows Explorer, (not Internet Explorer). It lets you find the PDF files and with multiple readers, (you can start with Adobe Reader), it will ask what app you wish to use to open the PDF file.

To answer my own question: while I haven't found a completely satisfactory solution to this problem, I have discovered in Adobe's Reader app the "Recents" list - which shows recently read documents in the descending order of last-opened date. This, combined with the fact that the Reader app remembers
