If someone had told you the situation in how you had first started going out with Kakuzu a while ago, you wouldn’t have believed them. But then again, you hadn’t known him then. There was something about him that you liked. You could never truly put your finger on it, but it constantly made you approach him and begin to talk, or ask to join him on a bounty hunt. Clearly there was something about you too, as he never pushed you away or declined your offer to come with him. It didn’t occur to you at first that you wanted to be with him in that way, but you still found yourself getting closer and closer and liking it as you did so. Intimacy wasn’t a problem for either of you; it was just the context it was in that made all the difference. The day you started dating was just like any other, and you had been in his room, talking about the bounty hunt you’d just finished. You had helped out in killing the guy this time, so he handed you some money as thanks, and taking it, knowing by now not to question the idea of him offering it, you couldn’t help but smile. Asking what exactly it was that you were smiling at, you explained it almost seemed like you were a prostitute, and he was paying you for your services, something he chuckled at and shook his head. Raising an eyebrow at that, you persisted in the joke, teasingly asking how much he thought you were worth for a night. Though he laughed at first, as you continued to ask how much you were worth, he eventually looked up at you, no mirth showing in his eyes, as he said softly, “More than I’ve got." From there you had just started kissing; having sex...and so began your relationship. No one knew about it, but that wasn’t really something you were trying to keep secret. You didn’t like to show off with affection, and when it came down to it, it was your business. So you were going to keep it to yourselves. If they asked, you’d tell the truth—you weren’t ashamed—but if they weren’t going to question about the relationship between you two, you weren’t going to instigate the conversation. So it wasn’t surprising no one had a clue you were together. It was your abilities that had affected you knowing you were pregnant. You didn’t have the usual place where your chakra converged before coming out after using handsigns. Instead your chakra created itself in every pore of your body, and therefore you didn’t need to build it up—it was always there. A couple of days after having sex with Kakuzu, you had gotten into a pretty big fight that had left you quite injured, with several wounds. They had hit vital places, and it had knocked your chakra abilities out of whack. It had pissed you off, knowing it would take months to fully heal, even if you could still fight at a high level. It wouldn’t make you at full health, and you needed to be so at all times. You didn’t get periods anymore with how your chakra reacted, so you hadn’t noticed because of that. But the healing process worked by taking all the injuries and foreign presences, and placing them in an inner core, working from the inside out to heal you, burning out any illness or wound. Of course, considering the egg had implanted in your womb and was now an embryo, it wasn’t an illness anymore—it was a part of you, so it wasn’t destroyed with the rest of the injuries. Not to mention the bump was hidden with the chakra containing everything unusual inside this inner core. All in all, you had no idea whatsoever the baby was even there. Four months passed and you still didn’t know. You’d been sick at first, but had just thought it was the injuries combined with the amount of chakra that was affecting you, and when the cravings and increased consumption of food were pointed out to you, you had thought it was because of the same thing. You had told what you had considered to be the truth to everyone—Kakuzu was worried about you, but knew you were healing, so he let it be for the moment, knowing it would pass sooner or later. But as your chakra started to leak out, causing things to move suddenly or jutsus to have a lot more power than they should do when you trained, you realised you were at full health once again, and released the chakra from healing you. Only it didn’t give the exact effect you were looking for as you suddenly found a bump sticking out from your stomach. Instantly panicking, you wondered how the hell you had managed to get pregnant in the first place, but calming yourself down, you took a deep breath, before you checked the baby over to see how far you were gone in your pregnancy. Only once you did it didn’t make you any happier. Four months pregnant—that meant the abortion date had been and gone. So now you had to keep it until you went into labour, at which point you would strangle it with your bare hands for causing you this stress. You would have ripped it out of your stomach right then and there if you hadn’t cared about your own health; you weren’t going to hurt yourself because of that thing inside of you. But for now, you did your cloak up fully, not wasting chakra for the moment, instead opting to only hide the bump with chakra when Kakuzu came a little too close. Unfortunately the cravings didn’t disappear, either. You continued to stuff your face with random things at random times, only now it seemed worse because of what you knew. The others found it funny, however, teasing you with how much you ate, constantly making comments of, ‘should you really be eating that?’ and things about your moods. Not only that, but they started pointing out the fact your boobs were getting bigger as well, only pissing you off even further, until in the end, as you sat round the kitchen table getting a load of crap once again for it, you slammed your chair back so hard it fell over and stood up. Watching and wondering what the hell you were doing, you glared down at all of them and spat viciously, “For the last time, no, I’m not trying to put on weight, and no, I haven’t had implants! You wanna know why?" And with that, you undid your cloak and revealed your bump to the world, causing the whole room to fall into silence. Kakuzu, standing on the other side of the table, froze and hadn’t a clue what to do, a wave of paranoia washing over him at the idea you had gotten pregnant by another guy, as Deidara finally managed to say softly, “Who’s the father, un?" At which point you flicked your glare up to Kakuzu, and pointing accusatorily, you answered simply, “Him," A reply which only caused further confusion and shock. They hadn’t even known you two were sleeping together, let alone having a baby. Kakuzu didn’t know what to feel. He was angry, confused, shocked...it stopped him from being able to truly show any emotion, and instead he stated tonelessly, “Adana, we need to talk." Dragging you into his room, he span round to face you and growled, “What the fuck, Adana? You neglected to tell me this before—you must be months into the pregnancy by now! Neither one of us wanted a baby and I know that for a fact." “You don’t think I know that? I don’t want one, but the chakra hid it when I had to heal myself—I had no idea I was pregnant until I released the healing jutsu on me, and suddenly this bump appeared! I’m past the abortion date, Kakuzu, and I can’t get rid of it until I give birth, okay?" “So why tell them?" Sighing, you crossed your arms, glaring, tapping your foot on the floor. He wasn’t taking anything into account here, and scowling back at him, you spat, “You forget to think rationally when you get angry, and you’re much more destructive with your anger than I am in the first place, so don’t start getting on at me for telling them all about me having a baby." Unable to come up with a reply to that, he shrugged and agreed with your ‘plan’—of sorts. So your pregnancy went on. Leader found out, but considering he knew the situation with you both, and the fact you could still fight as well as you had done before, he wasn’t particularly bothered. And Hidan was easy to shut up once you began to threaten him with babysitting. Or even being the godfather. As your waters broke, you decided to head to the hospital instead of staying at the hideout for the labour, Kakuzu waiting outside the delivery room as he knew you’d try to kill him if he went in to (try) and comfort you and to calm you down. Mostly things along the lines of ‘You did this to me’ and ‘It’s all your fault’. Waiting a little while even when it was all over, seeing you were calmed down now, he went inside and asked if you were okay. Nodding in agreement, you talked for a couple of minutes, before the door opened again and a nurse came in with the baby it its crib. Thanking her with a nod from both of you, Kakuzu went over to the baby first, seeing the same messy black hair as he had as well as his skin tone and facial features, though he had your eyes. Noting the fact he had more similarities in appearance with him than you, he glanced back at you to ask softly, “You wanna hold him?" Before picking him up to give to you. It was at this point that he reached out and grabbed his mask when he was close enough, pulling it down completely; and with both his hands holding the baby, Kakuzu could do nothing to stop him from doing so. Kakuzu sighed, expecting him to start crying at having done so, but instead he heard nothing, and so looking back, he stared into big blue eyes that were entirely innocent. They held no judgement, no assumptions at what he looked like or who he was, simply seeing him as what he was in basic terms: His father. He then merely smiled and began to touch Kakuzu’s face gently, stroking the stitches on his mouth and pulling him closer. Kakuzu couldn’t help but smile at his actions—at the look on his face, before he shifted to support him better in his arms, and left the mask off as he looked down at him, feeling a lot more fatherly than he had ever imagined being in these circumstances. Look at his anger problems; the fact he believed money was the only thing you could rely on in life...it didn’t put him down as a particularly good father figure. Not to mention he was an S-class criminal. And yet here he was. You merely smiled as well, finding the situation in front of you a lot more sentimental than you had thought it would appear at first. “Bring him over here," you breathed softly, as Kakuzu walked over, handing him to you as you cradled him gently. You hadn’t ever considered there being a bond between you—you’d hated being pregnant to begin with, so the idea of bonding with it when it was alive was even more ridiculous. But they always say that mothers have a bond with their children, an attachment that goes beyond material things. And as you held him, you were starting to think it was right. The rest of the Akatsuki edged in at this, Hidan pointing out it wasn’t as ugly as it could have been with Kakuzu for a father. Rolling your eyes as they all crowded round and kept on saying he was really cute, wanting to hold and play with him, you couldn’t help but look up at Kakuzu, and as he leaned in and kissed you, you whispered softly, “Maybe we could keep him." Kakuzu looked back at the baby—still unnamed for the moment—and nodded slowly, knowing he’d be unable to get rid of it now he’d held it and had that experience. He only paused as he thought of one thing, and looking back, said simply, “But we’re gonna have to get someone else to pay for him."
