ttl flash vs manual. In reply to gayang3 • Sep 9, 2010. Just to add to what others have said: When using flash, the overall exposure of the image is a combination of existing light (the ambient exposure) and the light from the flash (the flash exposure). To get the right flash exposure there are 2 main methods: manual and ttl.
26 Dec 2007 Anyway, with TTL flash, the flash output is varied and controlled by the camera's metering system. In other words: Aperture (and ISO) does NOT control flash exposure when we use TTL. This is because the camera will tell the flash to emit more (or to emit less) light, as the camera deems necessary for correct exposure.
When the flash output is directly controlled by your camera, it is called Through-the-Lens metering or TTL. In the case of an Automatic or TTL enabled flash, the flash output is directly controlled by the flash or by the camera's exposure metering system.
The linked article and the information you have been getting from "the shop" is more appropriate for someone desiring to take their flash photography to the next level. IMO a beginner or casual shooter would be better served with a TTL flash. I would advise anyone with a strong interest in photography to have at least one
13 May 2015 Think of it like using A mode on the camera vs. M mode on the camera. The flash power, like the shutter speed in A mode, is set based on camera metering. The camera tells the flash to send out a small "preflash" burst of light; meters it, and then based on the reading of the meter, adjusts the flash's output
14 Sep 2010 Among flash users, there has been a rift between manual flash proponents and TTL flash advocates, with some proponents of one declaring their method superior to the other. MANUAL VS. TTL: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE Manual flash means the user sets the power output himself in order to get the
Every time that TTL flash sends its signal back the camera, it opens the possibility for the settings to change. Ambient light, clouds Automatic, aperture priority, shutter priority, scene modes. Can also be operated in manual mode. TLL Flash Cons. TTL with flash off camera on infra red is unreliable at best. Is directly affected
18 Dec 2014 The question of whether one should use TTL vs manual flash output is one that many photographers will experience at one point or another in their careers. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. The majority of flashes can shoot in manual mode (thought there are some that indeed can't
