The dual clutch system is its generic name (powershift is just what ford have trademarked) it is also known as DSG which is what volkswagen/audi call it. Its really a development of the old (and pretty rubbish) automatic manual box. Think of it as 2 gearboxes, when you pull away in first gear, gearbox 1 is in first but gearbox 2
