On the lush alien world of Pandora live the Na'vi, beings who appear primitive but are highly evolved. Because the planet's environment is poisonous, human/Na'vi hybrids, called Avatars, must link to human minds to allow for free movement on Pandora. Jake Sully, a paralyzed former Marine, becomes mobile again through one such Avatar and falls in love with a Na'vi woman. As a bond with her grows, he is drawn into a battle for the survival of her world.
In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran, is brought to a moon, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na'vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.
Visually stimulating, sure. But the most unoriginal plot I've seen in years, not at all creative. Not worthy of the James Cameron label. Unfortunately, I don't see why so many people have gone crazy over this film. Obviously, they were stunned to retardation by all the shiny visuals and brightly colored landscapes in the movie to the point of not realizing that they had seen this exact plot a million times over. There is nothing original in this movie, no creativity in the plot, no in-depth thought or great work of art. It is visually stimulating, and much like a blonde chasing a shiny thing around a room, it is dull and dumb to anyone who has more than 2 brain cells.
When I saw the commercial for Avatar, I thought..how lame!! After a few weeks, when Avatar was release, many people was telling me how great the movie was. I was very skeptical to go see Avatar but my boyfriend was begging me to go see this movie with him. I decided to go but thought that this would of been a waste of my time!
After the movie...what can I say? I am an Avator!!!
The whole time, this movie had me off my seat. It was nothing I expected to be. I fell in love with this movie. I had no knowledge of who was the director is nor did I know who was the actors in this movie, but the one thing I know was that this movie was phenomenon. The setting from the real world and a place called Pandora. A man would have to pick between the human race or people different from his own kind. Pandora has what the Americans want but the people of Pandora refused to give up on there own homeland. Fantastic romance and the scarifies of many people.
Avator given me an incredible amount of excitement, emotions, and laughter. It also gave me a dose of reality. The reality of this movie is a classic example of American Greed. That we would do anything to get what we want even if it means killing and destroying what is not ours.
Once again, [Cameron] has silenced the doubters by simply delivering an extraordinary film. There is still at least one man in Hollywood who knows how to spend $250 million, or was it $300 million, wisely.
First of all there's the well-known record-breaking theatrical version that runs approximately 155 minutes and is available on Blu-ray/DVD. During its theatrical run Cameron announced that he'd planned to release extended versions of his movie, as well.
The first extended cut is the so-called Special Edition of the movie that had a theatrical release a couple months after the original run. There are one or two extended scenes which deepen existing portions of the plot on an emotional level and some completely new scenes. Those, however, only deepen the parts already known, but do not offer the viewer new possibilities of consideration or interpretation of the actual story. Among the highlights of the new scenes is the visit to a deserted Na'vi school by Grace, Norm and Jake. The other scenes are often simply contextual extensions. They include, among other things, scenes of Jake and Neytiri fusing their tendril features during their extra-terrestrial intercourse, the Na'vi and Jake hunting and burning the humans' excavating machines and Dr. Augustine's scientific explanation for the floating mountains. This new Special Edition runs approximately 8 minutes longer than the original theatrical version.
Furthermore there's the Extended Edition. The Extended Edition can be seen as a kind of bonus version. It is based upon the Special Edition and is nearly completely identical to it—except for the opening of the film. Initially, "Avatar" was to start on Earth. In the end, Cameron removed these scenes, because they would delay the plot. Only small parts of it were shown during Jake Sully's opening monologue. Cameron clearly prefers the classical start of the film aboard the spacecraft. However, the fans' disappointment with the missing scenes on Earth was so profound that Cameron decided to insert them in this extended edition. Thus, it must rather be viewed as some kind of bonus for fans. This Extended Edition runs approximately 7 minutes longer than the Special Edition and 15 minutes longer than the theatrical version and can be found in the Extended Collector's Edition. a5c7b9f00b
