The series retells the events from the two Dragon Ball Z films, Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' before proceeding to an original story about the exploration of alternate universes.Dragon Ball Super is the latest series in the Dragon Ball franchise and as a long time fan of the previous animes (even GT for a certain extent) I must say that it falls short of my expectations, specially since it was announces that Toriyama was involved.
Firstly, is it worth watching? If you are a long time fan of the show, sure! Watch it, it's nice to see everyone back. Even some characters that had previously been set aside are back and kicking some ass! However, if you are looking for a quality anime, this is not what you want.
What are it's main issues? The show's writing is by far the worst part, in my opinion. Plot holes and inconsistency in power levels are something you must have to deal with when watching the show. Also, the animation, just like in other animes by Toei is lackluster and sometimes characters are out of model as well as still frames that look horribly drawn. The animation starts off bad, has it's ups and downs, but ever since the "Tournament of Power" arc it's been better.
How to watch it in order to fully enjoy it? Here is my honest opinion, if you like DB and DBZ and want to continue Goku's journey, watch Dragon Ball Super. BUT! Don't follow the anime. Instead watch: 1st - Dragon Ball: Battle of Gods (www.imdb.com/title/tt2263944). 2nd - Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F (www.imdb.com/title/tt3819668). 3rd - Jump to episode 77 of Dragon Ball Super and start watching from there.
This way you can watch the best parts of the anime in movie format with better animation. Also, skip some filler episodes and join back in when our heroes are about to enter the "Tournament of Power".
All in all, Super is probably the most disappointing DB anime, specially because of the expectations established previously. However, don't let this stop you from seeing your childhood heroes once more and stronger than ever.Akira Toriyama had big opportunity to re-introduce Dragonball to a new generation. Dragonball Z pretty revolutionized all manga and was the inspiration for many more.
Dragonball Z had a big advantage over all others anime, because it was already popular and fans have been craving for new series for nearly 20 years. In the meantime, other popular anime's rose to popularity which was influenced by Dragonball.
Akira Toriyama failed to keep up and take inspiration from other popular anime's.
The current series are lifeless, badly drawn, filler full, lack of real action, lack of a robust story line, no character development.
Akira could have easily introduced new characters and even retired some background characters like Tien, Yamcha, Pilaf etc...
I find these series a big disappointment, the god's of destruction are a complete joke. Even sillier was Akira's decision to include movie plots into the anime. Think about this...Frieza's reason why he became so strong is because he had never trained in his life, when he did he became a lot stronger. I mean really? They could not have come up with something more creative?
They turned Vegeta into a big wuss. They are recycling story lines and some of the characters are redicilous (king of the Galacy is a green octopus with a crown)
I'm still going to watch in hope that it improves but I doubt it. I understand DB has always had comedy in it but this one is too much.
Underwhelmed and disappointing.Hence, Dragon Ball GT does not follow the official storyline, and cannot be placed in this timeline. It can be seen as an alternate storyline. Tights (Revised Hepburn: Taitsu) is the elder sister of Bulma. She is a character of the manga "Jako the Galactic Patrolman", by author Akira Toriyama. Tights was born in year 720 and Bulma was born in 733, being 13 years older than Bulma. The fact that Tights is never introduced in Dragon Ball nor mentioned before, is because "Jako the Galactic Patrolman" started its running on 2013, and Dragon Ball manga started on 1984 and ended in 1995, so Tights is a character that was created long after.The events of Dragon Ball Super: Doragon bôru cho (2015) happens six months after the end of the fight with Majin Bû (Dragon Ball Z: Doragon bôru zetto (1989)), and a few years before the events of the movie Dragon Ball Z: Doragon bôru Z - Kami to Kami (2013).
