For the past year I've been completing a transplant of a 1997 4.2L V8 from an A8 into an 1985 UrQ. Mechanically we're complete. We're having Posted November 30, 2007. You might like to look at TozoM8's post on audiworld from when he did his 6 speed manual conversion using an S4 gearbox.
The only way that you will be able to mate a V8 automatic to an existng audi manual trans is with an adapter plate. Im putting a rwd gearbox on the audi v8. And for this i need gearbox that fits the engine and cut bellhousing off on both boxex then weld the Audi housing part on to the new gearbox. . For example the FWD manual from the A4 doesn't fit the PT V8 quite as well as the 4-speed from a Porsche 924 :wink:
I have an original V8 5 speed but it took a while to find it since they onlly imported 68 or so to the USA. I believe the issue with converting to manual is that the ecu (if automatic) will go into limp mode.Unfortunately it has not been documented in depth and the only forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/105016.phtml Hmmm, interesting info, dosent really seem wth it IMO lol, Id rather find a manual V8.
I have a man that can, and will, be able to do all of the fab for me and he is surounded with Audi V8 motors so I don't even need to supply an engine at this point but a gearbox and a bell This means you have to use the std bellhousing with a plate style adaptor to convert to your new engine bolt pattern.
