Book descriptionMy cousin, who is very into military type fiction, recommended this to me. He rarely reads and doesnt really like doing it, but he seemed to really enjoy this book. Otherwise, I would not have picked this up in a million years.I am glad I read this book for two reasons: 1. because Ill have something literary to talk about with my cousin (and, all things considered, he could have chosen a much worse book to enjoy) and2. because I found out that this is not my genre. I prefer fantasy to scifi; I prefer romance and quests to military. Id always thought this was the case, but now I know for certain.Theres a good amount I can say about this book: the casual sexism (in a 400 page book, there is not ONE female character who has dialogue. What the heck? I get its a male-dominated genre, but honestly . . .), the uncomfortably and unnecessarily graphic descriptions (thats a staple of genre, I suppose), the focus on action over plot (I suppose I didnt expect anything more . . .).That being said, the worldbuilding was decent and there were a few very riveting and entertaining parts.
