Colonel James Faith travels to Rio Bamba, Ecuador, with the efficient Lieutenant Dixon Piper to summon the retired special operative MacGruber to retrieve the X5. MacGruber is considered deceased after the death of his beloved wife Casey by his archenemy Cunth in their wedding. MacGruber teams up with Piper and Vicki St. Elmo and they learn that the evil Cunth intends to use the warhead to destroy Washington D.C.Former special ops agent, the eccentric MacGruber, was long thought to be dead, following the murder of his wife Casey Janine Fitzpatrick during their wedding ceremony ten years ago. MacGruber did not believe in the use of guns, but rather self-made tools and weapons on the spur of the moment with whatever materials were on hand, and did not believe in working off of plans. However, MacGruber is still very much alive and has dropped out of western society to recover emotionally from Casey's murder, recover which he knows he will never be able to do. Colonel Jim Faith is able to locate MacGruber and coerce him out of retirement as MacGruber's arch enemy, Dieter von Cunth, who is thought to be Casey's murderer, has stolen a nuclear warhead, his intended use of it unknown. The one saving grace at this point is that Cunth does not have the codes to launch it. MacGruber's task is to prevent Cunth from using the warhead, either by eliminating him, recovering the warhead, and/or preventing Cunth from getting the codes. Rather than use his dream team of former associates for this mission, he is relegated to a team of three: himself, his former associate Vicki St. Elmo who he has to convince to return to work rather than focus on her stumbling music career, and Lt. Dixon Piper, more typical of the traditional special op member, he who is Faith's choice but who MacGruber hates. Beyond actions by Cunth to carry out his intended use of the warhead, MacGruber and his team face the obstacles of the differences between MacGruber and Piper, the former who is constantly putting his team at risk in his "my way or the high way" attitude. Through it all, MacGruber has to decide if he can love again as his reunion with Vicki brings to the surface their mutual attraction, that love which has always existed on Vicki's side despite being Casey's best friend.I can't believe I never heard of this movie. I only found out about it because it was at a gas station for 3.99 brand new. I did not even know what it was. It was actually my husband that said it would be funny. We have a DVD player and TV in the car, so I got it and away we go.
This movie is hilarious! It was so funny. I didn't like it at first since it started slow. Quickly it grew on me. Within 10 minutes it was the best movie ever! I laughed like crazy throughout.
So many good one liners in this movie. Fun lines, twisted funny, what a hilarious character. I have seen movies of a spy not being good where it is not done that well. It is a good concept but hard to execute. This movie does it perfectly. He is terrible and it is hilarious. He is a ridiculous person and his antics were always entertaining. A bummer this movie flopped in theaters. It deserved better.
I am surprised Ryan Philippe was involved. He is great.Let me just that this movie caught me by complete surprise. I had no knowledge that prior to it being released as a movie, the concept was based on 60 second SNL (Saturday Night Live) skits.
Where to begin- well first let me say that the movie is intended to make you laugh, so check yourself in to see a shrink if you analyse it in any other sense. But lets start where it succeeds, the dialogue. The film's material comes from its sharp and intuitive dialogue. Its randomness, direction and tolerance make it completely acceptable for anyone. It can be rude and crude, but when you know it's all for fun and joy; and a good laugh is subsequent, then what's the harm. But don't get me wrong it's not American Pie rude, nor is it Rambo crude. It's just right, hell you even laugh through the two sex scenes.
The film's dialogue helps it succeed with surprising situations and elements such as when **MacGruber suddenly and accidentally eliminates his entire team with explosives, which the movie spent five-or-so minutes developing on.**
The movie has the same quirky humour as other films like, Ace Ventura. So if you're looking for a good laugh, then honestly watch it with the sense of easing back one Friday night with mates and relax. Because it truly is ridiculous.

After the throbbing flameball of unfunny that is MacGruber, you never will again.MacGruber is based on a Saturday Night Live skit of the same name. The skit itself was a parody of the TV series MacGyver (1985) (1985-1992). The screenplay for MacGruber was written by the Saturday Night Live screenwriting team of Will Forte and John Solomon along with American filmmaker Jorma Taccone, who also directed the movie. "Touch and Go" by Emerson, Lake, and Powell is the song that plays during the montage as he checks off the names on his list. This comedy was released rated R in theaters worldwide.
