"What was that??? D:"
--Meerkat sitting perched on a boulder looking out for potential predators--
The rest of the mob scurry around digging holes and feasting on bugs and other animals.
The Meerkat (Suricata suricatta) becomes sexually mature at 2 years and gives birth to approximately 3 pups at a time. These pups will spend the first two weeks of life living inside the burrowed out tunnel system before venturing out into the open.
The group will switch sentry duty every hour or so, making a small squeaking noise to let the mob know all is well. If a predatory bird or snake is spotted, the sentry will give out a bark alerting the mob to its presence. The mob will disappear in a flash, scurrying back into the interlocking tunnel systems.
