It seems to be a new system of entry where everybody has to have a pass whether they enter with a tour or not. It does say you will be admitted entry without a guide and no pre reserved ticket but only in the first hour and you may have to wait for an extended time. visit.auschwitz.org/faq.html. 7. Report.
While on the grounds of the Museum, you are required to observe the appropriate solemnity and respect. The maximum size of backpacks or handbags brought into the Museum can not exceed dimensions: 30x20x10 cm. Individual visitors may tour the Memorial independently or in organised groups with a guide.

20 Jun 2015 This is my current understanding of the opening hours without a guide (in July):. Auschwitz I : 8AM to 10AM and 15AM to 19AM (and you need a free ticket). 26 Jan 2017 Tour guide we priced trip with strongly suggests doing Auschwitz without tour guide as it means we can start day earlier and therefore get back to Krakow . Powerranger, you can actually see and learn more by visiting the museum without a guide, the guides are strictly limited on time, and the miss out well

On our way from Wroclaw to Krakow, we decided to visit Auschwitz. You can only visit Auschwitz I on your own (for free) before 10.00 or after 16.00 pm. Here's some useful info in case you arrive during the day without a reservation for a guided tour, like we did. We arrived at Auschwitz I at about 13.00 (paid parking).
