A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.
Set in the near future, a falsely convicted ex-government agent has one chance at obtaining freedom. He must undertake a dangerous mission to rescue the President's daughter from rioting convicts at an outer space maximum-security prison.
At first, when I saw the trailer, I saw this witty and cool, bad-ass dude (ala die hard) who was also willing to do whatever it took to defeat the bad guys. I loved Die Hard, and this was definitely my kind of character, so I had to see it! While I did not watch it in the theater, I decided straight away I was going to buy it on DVD. I usually know when I'm going to like a movie, so I took the chance. And I have to say, I made a great choice! While it is kind of short, the length of it (95 mins) is enough for this movie to at least not be too short. It's pretty standard length actually. The one liners and humor were great, and the girl was pretty cool as well. Or, should I say pretty and cool? The effects were not great, but they at least looked real enough. Overall, this one is definitely here to stay in my collection. 10/10!
Best action flick I've seen in a while. Guy Pearce rocks as the hero delivering humorous sarcastic banter with co-star Maggie Grace throughout the film. Awesome special effects and action scenes with the real conspirator getting what's due at the end. After the flick I felt like I've seen this story before somewhere but couldn't figure it out. Then it hit me..... we have the Presidents daughter held captive in a space prison.....we have the wrongly accused hero about to be sent to prison, but is made an offer to rescue the hostage in exchange for his freedom...we have lots of action into the rescue with prisoners trying to hunt them both down....then a dramatic escape at the end. Where have I seen this before??? "Escape From New York", Kurt Russel, same plot.
Lockout consists of disciplined action pastiche, but much of its thundering engine borrows from better movies.
Guy Pearce met with Luc Besson at the beginning of 2010 in LA to discuss the film and then met with Stephen St. Leger and James Mather a few months later. He thought the script felt original, which is always what he is looking for. He also liked the idea of playing an irreverent character like Snow. He was drawn to him because he's not the typical action hero. He exhibited a lazy and exhausted quality.It has quite some tradition that some of writer/producer Luc Besson's movies get censored for a more profitable PG-13 rating. The censorship for the PG-13 rating is obviously no unknown territory for the filmmakers in Besson's team since they managed to take the edge off it very well by applying almost every tool one could think of. Next to using harmless alternate takes or simply cutting something out, the PG-13 also delivers a censored dialogue, audio line and even digitally manufactured visual alterations (and maybe even blood that's not quite as red as it is normally). A lot of effort to make a film that is usually aiming at experienced B-action buffs suitable for teenagers. a5c7b9f00b
