Through an improbable series of events and an impossibly bungled supermarket hold-up, down on their luck con men Matt and Wilbur find themselves working with the Miami police force. As they patrol the streets of the city, their main job becomes trying to break the hold of the city's street gangs, including one group of teens in old movie-gangster style clothes, led by a kid named Geronimo who dresses in full Indian warrior regalia.
An attempted robbery turns to be an unexpected recruitment when two unemployed men mistakenly break into a police office instead of a store.
Matt Kirby and Wilbur Walsh meet each other when looking for a job in a harbor. They are both rejected in a rude way. This leads to the first slapstick fightscene.
Because they still don't have a job they decide to go for the quick money by robbing a supermarket. In a snackbar they meet two cops. Just for fun Matt and Wilbur tell that they want to be a cop. By mistake they run into a policestation when intending to rob the supermarket. The same two cops are there and get Matt and Wilbur a job by the police. Being a cop they meet al sorts of criminals, but when they are never fighting when they are in their uniform.
The red line in the movie is a man from Shanghai. First Matt meets him in the harbor, later they run into him when being a cop. Then they accidently meet his family, and at the end they solve a case where he was part of.
It's an easy to watch and funny movie, just for a rainy sunday afternoon.
I grew up with them, here in Germqany their films are extremely popular. Now that I'm a grown-up, of course I must admit that most of their films are pretty silly, yet still they had an effect on me and influenced my preferences. This one is definitely the best one of them. Its slapstick humor is brilliant and the story is silly but absolutely hilarious. But the best thing about the film is the music. The moment you start whistling it, everybody knows exactly where it comes from. Genius! Even aspects like photography and set decoration are very convincing in this one, you find some beautiful pictures and scenes in it. So it's still a classic simple slapstick-buddy-movie, but a very special one: Their best one! It's a hell of fun to watch it!
