At the center of "Chicago P.D." is Det. Sgt. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), who is at ground zero against the war on crime in Chicago. He will do anything to bring criminals to justice. From multiple Emmy Award-winning executive producer Dick Wolf and the team behind the hit series "Chicago Fire," "Chicago P.D." is a riveting police drama about the men and women of the Chicago Police Department's elite Intelligence Unit, combating the city's most heinous offenses - organized crime, drug trafficking, high-profile murders and beyond. Hand-picked as the head of the unit is Voight, who has assembled a team of diverse detectives who share his passion, and commitment to keep the city safe. They include Det. Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda), who is more level-headed and "by the book" than his counterpart; Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), a brash young detective who previously saw active military duty in the Middle East; Halstead's partner Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush), a former "bad girl" who turned her life around with Voight's help; Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas), an experienced undercover detective and confidante for Voight; and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), a quick-witted cadet plucked from the police academy as Olinsky's partner. The unit also includes two rising young uniform cops - Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins), a charismatic patrolman who has an active social life, and Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), a patrol officer who strives to one day become a part of the elite Intelligence Unit. Sheldon Jin (Archie Kao) is the tech geek in charge of surveillance and tech ops.
District 21 of the Chicago Police Department is made up of two distinctly different groups. There are the uniformed cops who patrol the beat and go head-to-head with the city's street crimes. And there's the Intelligence Unit, the team that combats the city's major offenses - organized crime, drug trafficking, high profile murders and beyond.
I love this show for its believable characters and interesting, ever-changing story lines. Occasionally humorous and always action packed and entertaining, essentially what you see is what you get- it's a cop show, but one done right. Time is taken to develop the characters and thought is put into the issues investigated each episode.
No point in complaining that it "isn't realistic"- it's a TV show...they do their best, which in my opinion is pretty great. Not to mention the show is cleverly crossed over with its sister shows Fire and Med. :D
As a side note the cast also has an excellent presence on social media, which helps to fill the void left by the show's annual weeks of absence.
I think the show is great! Big fan of Sophia Bush, from One Tree Hill, who plays the character rather well, but I feel as tho she could do better. She seems to blend with the unit like a ghost rather than stand out. It would be perfect if her character was some bad-ass chick who knows what she's doing, and i'm not saying she doesn't know what she's doing, but she could defiantly offer more to the table. As far the show I find myself a little lost because it crosses over with Chicago Fire and SVU, mind you i've never watched either two. I've heard good things about them, so I was exited so see the crossover episode in season two. So sometimes I feel as tho some episodes are hard to keep up, only because they throw a lot of new names of the bad guys around. Chicago PD is different from the rest to an extent, has a decent story to it, however some of it is not new so it doesn't have that pop to it. It has the romance, conflict, personal issues, etc. The story they have with Jason Beghe (Voight) is awesome, he's my favorite character (aside from Sophia Bush (; - As far as police shows go, I would still have to say Flashpoint is by far more better due to being more tactical.
Wolf Films and Open 4 Business Productions are now in pre-production on the new NBC Universal Television one-hour police drama series "Chicago PD". Casting directors in New York and Chicago are holding auditions for new series regulars, recurring roles, guest stars, and day players. The series extras are being cast on an ongoing basis throughout production on season one. The show centers on the Windy Cities Police Department in Chicago, and is a spin-off from the hit NBC series "Chicago Fire". Shooting on the first episode of "Chicago PD" gets underway in September, 2013.
