I am having a major problem with my 40gig Playstation 3. It has been freezing up on me alot lately while just sitting on the XMB or in a game. During a game it will just freeze everything up the game and the controller. During the XMB it will freeze. The only thing I can think of is something got corrupted on the working space of the drive. Worth a shot if it's not just overheating. I had the same problem and found this fix.
