I would just like to adress something that bothers me alittle. But before I start, I want you to understand that I think what has happned in Japan is very sad and all, but I have to put it in perspective.
In 2004, a tsunami of 9.15 on the richer-scale hit Thailand, 225 000 people lost their lives. This was a catastrophy that sunk its teeth deep into us in sweden.
Our families, our friends, many of us were there, many of us had houses there, many of us had emotional attatchments to thailand.
In 2005, a category 5 hurricane called Katrina hit new orleans. 1836 people dead. enormous damage.
Nobody here really cared.
In 2010, An earthquake of 7.8 on the richter-scale hit Haiti. The total death toll is still not known, but around 212000 are confirmed dead and 300 000 were injured. This is a very poor part of the world, they could not help themselves very well.
Nobody put up any pictures on bdb about haiti.
in 2011, an earthquake of 8.9 caused a tsunami that hit Japan and then headed towards Hawaii, luckily it never reached Hawaii and even if it had, thew were already preapared.
In japan though, alot of damage was caused, the confirmed death toll lies at about 1000 but could amount to more. We have to wait and see.
Japan is a rich country, preapared for these kinds of disasters. With a little help, they will be back on their feet in no time.
A disaster, yes.
Sad, yes.
But I do not think we should value it more than other countries. We are all worth the same.
I know of alot of people who travelled to japan. Alot of us have ties to the country, but what i dislike, is the people who have no other ties to japan other than that they like manga and anime and want to be a japanese and think it's the greatest country in the world, now all worked up becouse of this when they didn't give two shits about when the rest of the world was in far greater trouble. Just something I wanted said,
Don't get me wrong. I think it's sad. I just think they got really lucky when you put it to perspective.
