Book descriptionAs a command line newbie, and as someone who does not want a degree-level textbook just to be able to dabble in a bit of terminal action, I thought this was a pretty decent book. Its easy to read, it never gets intimidatingly deep or obscure, and there are sections on most of the things I wanted to know about, at least at this early stage. There are some oddities and frustrations, though, particularly the way the text often refers to material you have not yet encountered, or the inclusion of somewhat outmoded information (though in fairness, computing books go out of date faster than most). I also felt that some sections were a little clumsier than others, or a little briefer than I wanted, but that might be as much to do with my requirements as the book itself.Overall, three stars looks a bit tight, and I was going to to for four, but on balance I feel that I wanted just a bit more on certain aspects than the book was able to deliver; Id certainly be happy to say its worth a look for a newbie, perhaps someone transferring from another kind of system.
