advantages and disadvantages of guided and unguided media
Guided Media or Wired links: Examples of Wired Media. As the name indicates, in guided media. Electrical/Optical signals are passed through a solid medium (different types of cables/wires); As the path traversed by the signals is guided by the size, shape and length of the wire, this type of media is called guided media.
Guided media are those in which the message flows through a physical media such as a twisted-pair wire, coaxial cable, or fiber-optic cable; the media . whereas others typically are not (twisted-pair, coaxial cable, radio, and infrared), although we should note that some old WAN networks still use twisted-pair cable.
With guided transmission media, the waves are guided along a physical path; examples of guided media include phone lines, twisted pair cables, coaxial cables, and optical fibers. Unguided transmission media are methods that allow the transmission of data without the use of physical means to define the path it takes.
12 Nov 2016 The type of communication media in which communication devices are directly linked with each other via cables or physical media is called Guided media. The data signals are bounded to cabling media. Therefore, guided media is also called Bounded media. The examples of guided or bounded media
22 Jun 2010 The atmosphere and outer space are examples of unguided media that provide a means of transmitting electromagnetic signals but do not guide them; this form of transmission is usually . A form of network cabling used primarily in older Ethernet networks and in electrically noisy industrial environments.
12 Oct 2007 No one of the three categories of media types can be considered best. Each is useful in different situations, and most networks need to take advantage of a number of media types. When building a new network or upgrading an old one, the choice of media type should be based on the prevailing conditions.
5 May 2016 The means through which data is transformed from one place to another is called transmission or communication media. There are two categories of transmission media used in computer communications. Coaxial cable is very common & widely used commutation media.
These are the most two important type of transmission media. Guided Media. It is a physical transmission media which can be seen and touched. It has tree types. Twisted pair cable. Co-exial cable. Fiber optic cable. Unguided Media. It is a media used for data transmission which can't be seen and touched. It has six types
