17 Mar 2010 It caught my eye as I was wandering about Cycles de Oro's floor, and it's a unique little item that Specialized makes but hasn't really promoted.A‚A Called the Comp-Set stem, it uses an angled shim between the steerer tube and the stem to create a wide range of angles, letting you dial in the fit of your bike.
In the box you get 1 stem, 1 top cap and bolt, 3 shims and thankfully some instructions with adequate diagrams. Basically, both the 12 and 24 degree versions of this stem give you another 8 degrees to play with by virtue of the 0, 2 and 4 degree shims. This gives you a range of 8 to 16 and 20 to 28 degrees

Because the shim sleeve is tapered with this multi-angled stem, the axis of the stem casting isn't exactly co-axial with the steerer tube.

I have a new Roubaix Comp with the adjustable stem. I see how to adjust the angle. My question is dropping it lower on the steerer tube. If I pull off.
