23 Mar 2011 Guide Calculator fro Switch/Spey Rods - posted in General Rod Building: I have a 11' 3/4wt switch blank, when entering the info into the calculator it spits out 12 guides with the stripper 30" I tape my guides on and do a static deflection test, as well as test casting the rod before committing to a spacing.
I've attached a .pdf in this post which is an example of a guide spacing calculator program developed by a well known split bamboo fly rod maker. If I can attach that Personally I would suggest doing a static guide placement, as it does the best job IMO of setting the guides. Here is one method. Doing this

Guide spacing for spey rods is no different than for any other rod. Generally, what you are using now on your other fly rods will work just as well on your spey or two handed rod. STATIC LOAD POSITIONING FOR RUNNING GUIDE PLACEMENT. IMPORTANT: BEFORE YOU BEGIN you must have the reel seat, reel (with some line), handle and tip installed. Stripper and reduction guides should be taped in place and pre-positioned running guides should also be taped on to complete this exercise.
