Book descriptionI seriously have no idea what to make of this manga. Over the Rainbow starts as a series of cute, if not melancholy, one-shots, and then, in the second half, takes a weird turn towards a (I think?) yakuza story with the amnesiac heroine as the surprisingly willing victim, before a relatively tame josei final chapter about a newlywed couple living between a terrifying mean-girl housewife and an Alzheimers patient. Characters fall in love with each other at the drop of a hat, a man reveals that he slept with his ex-wife after she has a miscarriage and its never again mentioned, and apparently, the world this manga lives has mobsters who can implant missing college students with fake memories. The narrative is all over the map, and that sense of disjointedness extends to the art. Flashbacks are initiated with no warning, scene changes become confusing because of poor transitions, and sometimes, Keys arms and legs just look kind of funky. For all that, though, this is a nice enough one-shot manga about a pleasant girl working for pleasant lawyers. Its not very good, but the themes of family keep it tied together just well enough that Ill keep this on my shelf rather than sending it screaming out of my room to find a new home.Over the Rainbow by Keiko Honda page reader itunes read touch
