While he's deep undercover in New York, DEA agent Shane Tanner, the son of a legendary cooler named Dalton, learns that his uncle Nate Tanner got beat up by a group of men because he doesn't want to sell the Black Pelican, his bar in Tyree, Louisiana. Shane takes off for Louisiana to find out who attacked Nate. Shane decides to stay in Nate's house for the time being, and run the Black Pelican in Nate's absence, much to the dismay of former Black Pelican cooler Bill "Wild Bill" Decarie. Wild Bill wants to buy the Black Pelican since it's located in a prime location for running drugs. The Black Pelican is close to the border, it's between Florida and Texas, and it's in an area where drugs can be smuggled pretty much undetected. But Shane doesn't want to sell, and damages the numerous thugs that Bill sends his way. Also, Dalton was murdered years ago, and Shane still wonders who killed Dalton. When Shane was a rookie state trooper in Tyree, Shane had come home from work one night, and found Dalton fatally shot. After that, Shane left town and became a DEA agent. Now, Wild Bill's boss, Miami crime syndicate kingpin Victor Crost, decides that it's time to handle matters personally, because Wild Bill's men are not doing a good job of it. Shane is soon faced with impossible odds and a low number of staff members at the Black Pelican. To rid Louisiana of Victor, Wild Bill, and their organization, Shane teams up with local school teacher Beau Hampton, who is a regular at the Black Pelican.
"Road House 2" is a worthy sequel to the Eighties cult fight fest, full of gorgeous Louisiana locales and the obligatory redneck sideshows. Dalton offspring Jonathon Schaech flies from New York to the bayou where he must protect the Black Pelican bar, a family establishment, from an encroaching Miami crime syndicate led by Richard Norton, starring as Victor Cross. The well tailored Cross is the kind of villain that audiences relish. He is suavely menacing and overly confident. Norton plays him to perfection, and the film benefits from a suited bad guy in contrast to all those bar brawlers. When Norton, a famed martial artist, and Schaech go at each other, the movie finally finds the edgy action style it needs for contemporary audiences. Unfortunately, Norton and co-star Will Patton do not get enough screen time in this chapter of the Dalton family saga. But, the film gets high marks for casting them and for their performances. If "Road House" repeats again, let's hope that Victor, as portrayed by Norton, gets a return reservation!
I saw the behind the scenes featurette on the special edition of Roadhouse. My first thought was no way a sequel could be made with out Swayze, no way, then Jonathon Schaech came into my bar( yea, I was bouncing when Roadhouse came out then and now, how sad) this past weekend and we got a chance to talk. He is a real cool guy. A regular joe. Just on that meeting I rented the movie. I tell ya' it's not bad. The fight scenes are outstanding, although not too realist (not smart to kick high), but close , they are very well done. Schaech is very fast, I doubt they used camera tricks, he is a natural. The acting is good; I wish Jake would have gone a little bit more over the top. The women are all hot, the fight scene between the two females at the end, nice, very nice. All and all it's not bad, a worthy sequel and come on, Will Patton is in it, that is just icing on the cake.
Yes! The main character, Shane Tanner, is the son of James Dalton, Patrick Swayze's character in the first Road House. However, the reason why he and his uncle, Nate Tanner, don't have the last name Dalton is unexplained. James Otto. No, neither of them are. Swayze was offered a chance to reprise his role from the first one, but he turned it down. So, they changed the script and added to it that Dalton is dead, to explain his abscense. 497e39180f
