Realizing that the FBI and their by the book tactics may be unsuccessful, the Chinese consul recruits the aid of a loyal Hong Kong inspector to help rescue his kidnapped daughter. Outlawed by the FBI, the inspector must form an unlikely partnership with a cocky, street smart LAPD officer who prefers doing things his own way.
Cultures clash and tempers flares as the two cops named Detective Inspector Lee a Hong Kong Detective and Detective James Carter FBI, a big-mouthed work-alone Los Angeles cop who are from different worlds discovers one thing in common: they can't stand each other. With time running out, they must join forces to catch the criminals and save the eleven-year-old Chinese girl of the Chinese consul named Soo Yung.
This film holds the attention of the viewer but fans of Chan will be disapointed. There's hardly any action, about 3 fight sequences and not very long either. Lets face facts, the main reason we watch Jackie Chan is because he is number 1 and choreographing fights and stunts and he always delivers with eye popping routines. The film is toned down and makes way for character development and story. Chris Tucker spoils most of the film but has 1 or 2 good scenes. The film has a predictable ending. Chan has made much better(and much funnier)films that this such as Twin dragons. I'd recommend that you see them instead.
You might not be sure if this movie would be good if you rent it, at first glance. I'll put it like this, GO RENT THIS MOVIE NOW! It's a classic case of east-west culture shock with a lot of zaniness thrown in for good measure. I can hardly wait for the sequel (there will be one), in review, if you at least remotely like the Lethal Weapon series, you'll most likely like Rush Hour.
