24 Aug 2016 It has a Sentencing Council that is responsible for producing, issuing, and reviewing guidance to the courts on what factors should be considered when amongst the public regarding the realities of sentencing and publishing information regarding sentencing practice in Magistrates' and the Crown Court.
Publication — Definitive guideline — 7 March 2017. This guideline applies regardless of the date of the offence to all individual offenders aged 18 and older and to organisations in cases where the first hearing is on or after 1 June 2017. The guideline applies equally in magistrates' courts and the Crown Court.

10 Dec 2015 The Sentencing Council has published a revised definitive guideline for allocation, which will provide courts with guidance on whether cases should be dealt with in magistrates' courts or the Crown Court.
