A corporation hires a professional assassin to pose as its trade show representative who must organize the wedding of a Middle Eastern pop star, which will allow him the opportunity to kill a Middle Eastern politician.
A political satire set in Turaqistan, a country occupied by an American private corporation run by a former US Vice President. In an effort to monopolize the opportunities the war-torn nation offers, the corporation's CEO hires a troubled hit man, to kill a Middle East oil minister. Now, struggling with his own growing demons, the assassin must pose as the corporation's Trade Show Producer in order to pull off this latest hit, while maintaining his cover by organizing the high-profile wedding of Yonica Babyyeah, an outrageous Middle Eastern pop star, and keeping a sexy left wing reporter in check.
At what appears to be a rather conventional action movie on the surface, War inc. has considerably more depth than first appears. It's comic, light-hearted script is met with a rather serious storyline with an uplifting twist. Hilary Duff seems to have stepped out of her previous girl next door roles and into a much more adult role as she plays an Asian pop star. Ben Kingsley,John and Joan Cusack amongst other talented actors show nothing but their usual high standards. This movie is targeted mainly towards adults and teenagers alike. A great movie to suit all tastes, incorporating various aspects of all your favourite movies into 107 minutes of great entertainment.
I believe with a little more money and a little more time, this film, even though on a familiar subject played out on Jon Stewart every night, could have been a major classic comedy, defined as one you can watch over and over again, like Animal House and more recently Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) and LOL every time. Outstanding performances by John Cusack in a convincing role as a heartbroken assassin, plus one of the best choreographed six on one smackdowns, plus sister Joan Cusack as the all-time best screaming at her wayward boss speeches (think Miss Moneypenny to James Bond on acid). I truly admire when an actor steps out from the limelight side of the camera and writes a script, produces, and then stars in it, too. The record is held by Barbra Streisand who wrote, directed, produced, starred in, and then sang, too -- in "drag"! (playing a female disguised as a male in Yentl). Thus John Cusack's achievement in bringing it to the screen is to be really complimented. I wish amateur critic sites would let us know how much was spent on a film and how long it took to shoot (and even how long it took from script to screen). IMDb, SUGGESTION, HINT, HINT. Some directors spend huge budgets and shoot forever, (you know who you are) but end up with film that should line birdcages. I look forward to John and company's next effort.
The trouble with this satirical take US involvement in Iraq, penned by Mark Leyner, John Cusack and Jeremy Pikser, is that the real thing is equally absurd and only marginally less funny.
War, Inc. was based on a screenplay written by principal actor John Cusack and American writers Mark Leyner and Jeremy Pikser. The story is partly inspired by Naomi Klein's article "Baghdad Year Zero: Pillaging Iraq in pursuit of a neocon utopia", which was published in the September 2004 issue of The Harper's Magazine. There is no company named Tamerlane active in the middle east. No. War Inc. is not a direct sequel. Cusack has said that Disney did not want to make a sequel but he tried to incorporate the idea of Grosse Pointe Blank into War Inc. The characters are different, as is the location. John Cusack wrote the part of Yonica with Hilary Duff in mind. At first she wanted to reject it as it meant having to play another popstar but ultimately gave in as she realized that it is a very different kind of "popstar". Cusack has also praised Duff's acting skills in this movie, calling her "a great actress" and a "revelation every day". 646f9e108c
