Six children genetically cross-bred with avian DNA, complete with wings, take flight around the country to discover their origins.
There are 6 children that aren't your average kids. Their names are Max (14 years old), Fang (14), Iggy (14), Nudge (11), Gazzy (8), and Angel (6). They're special hybrid humans; they had 2% avian DNA infused to their human DNA. They escaped from a lab they call "The School" with the help of their caretaker (Jeb Batchleder), and they've been living in the mountains since, even after Jeb dies. But when the half-lupine guards from The School, Erasers, have taken Angel, they go on a exhilarating journey to get her back. Along the way, their mysterious past is being revealed, as well as some stunning secrets.
"Filmed on an iPhone and post-produced on a home computer this would be a great debut" ... is what I'd like to say. Unfortunately it is no such thing. It is blunt and cheesy from the start, which is fair: you can't say you didn't know what's coming. In parts that cheesiness came up so violently - I had a sudden urge to laugh. That must be what makes a film "so bad that it gets good again".
I guess the cast "holds the line", so it worked for me.
In fact the scenes all have purpose. One could fault a lack of subtlety but one can't fail to see a working plot.
I was amused. I found it terrible.
Like many other reviewers, I read the books when I was younger. It's still is my favorite collection of books. I'd like to start off by saying that I've waited for this movie to be made for about six years. Total let down. Who they cast for Max was decent enough, and at least she matched the written description. (Almost, her hair shouldn't have been that blonde. Oh well.) Though, the actress was really skinny. But don't even get me started on Fang. First of all, I read on this site that his name wasn't mentioned throughout the movie once. WTH? That was just poor planning in my opinion. But the actor. Oh, God. A short blonde haircut? Really? No. Fang is supposed to have longish dark hair, and be quiet and brooding. And the chemistry between Max and Fang's actors was poor. During their moments alone, she just stared at him. Secondly, Iggy was supposed to be tall. Really tall. At least they got the blind part right. Nudge had too much attitude. She's not supposed to get all "I want to be a real girl!" until like book three. Gazzy was fine but Angel. Oh dear. Why did she act like an escaped mental patient the entire time? She looked like that girl from The Ring. And where was her loving connection with Max? I feel awful for someone watching this who hadn't read like all nine books. They must've been so confused. Lastly, I would like to address the graphics. I wanted to puke they were so bad. Yeah, okay. The movie WAS low budget but still. They might as well've cut the wings out of the movie all together because they were just below par. I'm sure a high school computer graphics student could do better. On the characters they just looked ridiculous. Like bird wings on an elephant. They could've made them look just a touch bigger with no harm. In conclusion, I was absolutely and thoroughly disappointed with this. If ever provided the chance, I would fund a remake of this movie that met the standards of something other than a homemade film.
