2 Jan 2013 Modify current library: Use File > Library > Export Library to get an up-to-date XML representation of your library. Exit iTunes and use the Task Manager to make sure it (and the iTunes Helper) are well and truly dead. Navigate to your iTunes folder. Change the play counts in the iTunes Media Library.xml file.
Hi, I'm looking to to find a way to change the play count for a track in iTunes other than manually skipping the song to the last second each time.
26 Nov 2010 I found the awesome Liquid Parallax scripts but didn't like manually editing the javascript file to set the new play count. So I hacked it together
If there is, save your script there, with a name like "Change Play Count". Choose "script" as the format. It'll show up in a new menu with a little script icon. You should be able to select a track or tracks in iTunes and use this script to change the play counts.

Doug Adams makes AppleScripts to control various iTunes features. "New Play Count" should do what you want.
