This song was requested by a really brave guy named Dalton...if you want to hear his story then please read what he sent to me (below), I'm sure you will be as touched by it as I was. xo
Whitney,
Hey my name is Dalton. I have a story that I would like to tell you that oddly enough involves you and your amazing gift. I know this is weird and trust me I feel weird messaging some one i dont know, so i could imagine what your thinking but i promised my self that I would do it. My bestfriend, J.D. and I joined the Navy together in 2006 after we graduated high school. After all our trainning was done we were sent to Bagdad, Iraq on May 23, 2007. Life in Iraq basically sucked until we talked my mom into mailing us a lap-top so we could hook up to the Wi-fi in our barracks room. J.D. was huge into Youtube and loved watching people sing country songs, mostly for there comedic relief. One night while surfing Youtube he stumbled on your version of Sugarlands- Stay. We were at such awe with your voice and how beautiful you were. We fell in love with you music and after missions would just chill out in our barracks room playing poker and listen to all your videos even the ones of the songs we had never heard. Almost everyday J.D. would talk about how he was going to somehow get ahold of you and ask you to sing Rascal Flatts- What Hurts the Most. J.D. just ran out of time. On April 17, 2008, my world came crashing down, my best friend since tea ball was gone. He was killed instanly when he was shot 9 times as i stood less than 10 feet away. After a debriefing, and a make shift memorial service for him I finally made it back to our barracks room to pack our things, I was gonig to be flying J.D. home to his parents. After packing up all of our stuff, I went to pack the last thing, the lap top, something that brought us closer to the world we knew, the world we fought for, closer to our familys, closer to are beloved Atlanta Braves and Auburn Tigers, and closer to music like yours and I must add mostly yours. As I was going to shut down the lap-top i noticed there was still a Youtube window still up. J.D. had lisnted to one of your songs right before we left on what would be his last mission. The song he had listen to was Leanne Womacks- I hope you dance, which i thought was very fitting. On the flight back to meet J.D. parents I made a promise to my self that I would do as many of the things that he talked about doing while we were in Iraq. Finding a way to get a hold of you and asking you to sing that song is one of the many things I have decided to do for him. I wanted to tell you this story because I wanted to thank you! Your songs helped us alot it helped us get our minds off what was going on in the world around us. So Thank you Whitney. I hope I didnt bore you and waste to much of you time.
