A young martial artist embarks on an adventure, encountering other martial artists in battle until one day he meets an aging blind man who will show him the true meaning of martial arts and life.
A young martial artist, Cord the Seeker, competes for and loses the right to go on a quest for the Book of All Knowlege held by a wizard named Zetan, but he goes along the path to seek Zetan anyway. Along the way, he meets strange tests and challenges by enemies and allies - often having difficulty determining which is which.
Extraordinarily bizarre martial arts film that actor David Carradine inherited after Bruce Lee, who originally came up with the story, died. The protagonist is Jeff Cooper, though, who is a warrior who wants to challenge the famous and supposedly evil master Zetan (Christopher Lee) so he can get at the mysterious and magical book he guards. Carradine plays four different characters whom Cooper meets on his way to Zetan, three of whom are warriors themselves looking to stop Cooper. The fourth is a blind mystic who plays the flute and spouts out goofy proverbs like "If you tie two birds together, they have four wings but cannot fly." The film is pretentious to a laughable degree. But, screw it, I was laughing, so I was enjoying myself. I wouldn't say it's "so-bad-it's-good". More like it's so bizarre it's good. I loved the quasi-fantastic setting. The scenery (it was filmed in Israel) does feel otherworldly, and it's very beautiful. I also loved the costumes. Kung Fu Panda totally ripped off the ending of this movie. It's not surprising that opinions are so sharply divided on Circle of Iron, but I think any cult movie lover worth his salt will love the heck out of it, as I did.
I can't really add much to this movie that others have already discussed in detail. This movie just happen to catch my eye on netflix . I am often willing to give odd or forgotten movies a chance hoping to see something original and worth while. I have no former knowledge of this movie and its relation to Bruce lee , so that's not even a factor as to why I watched it, so I'm strictly reviewing without any bias towards that . I do like some martial arts movies but I'm not a huge fan of the genre.For this being a martial arts movie though , it did lack in this area greatly. Not in quantity ,but quality. They could have found some "real" M.A. Who were willing to be apart of this movie . Instead of the clowns they hired.,
I did dig the whole philosophical side of the movie . I know little to nothing on eastern or zen philosophy , but was interesting to listen to .
To sum up the movie into what made it a 5 star "watchable" movie was its weak choreography in M.A. ,cheap costume design and shallow creativity.
