31 Oct 2017 After filing Form 1041, the fiduciary may provide a beneficiary a Schedule K-1 that reflects the beneficiary's share of income, deductions, credits and other items that the beneficiary will need to report on their individual tax return (Form 1040).
You must report all dividend income on the 1041, and you report the share of dividend income for each beneficiary on Schedule K-1s. You must furnish a copy of each K-1 to the appropriate beneficiary, and attach all copies to Form 1041 when you file the return with the Internal Revenue Service.
Use Schedule K-1 to report a beneficiary's share of the estate's or trust's income, credits, deductions, etc. on your Form 1040, U.S. Individual Income Tax Return. Keep it for your records. Don't file it with your tax return, unless backup withholding was reported in box 13, code B.
The trust attaches Schedule B to Form 1041 to specify these deductions. Do not deduct discretionary distributions to beneficiaries.
