Set at the Bobby Wasabi Martial Arts Academy, a strip mall martial arts studio and worst dojo in the under-performing nationwide Bobby Wasabi chain. Revolves around a ragtag crew of lovable misfits who welcome a hotshot skateboarder named Jack who will teach them about life, karate, and how to just plain kick it.
Rudy is a down-on-his-luck martial arts teacher who is only in teaching of his students, Milton, Jerry, and Eddie. Things begin to turn around for him when he meets Jack, a young, but very good martial artist, who has a connection with famous martial arts movie star, Bobby Wasabi. Jack agrees to help win back the dojo in a tournament against a rival dojo, the Black Dragons. While on many crazy adventures, Jack and the gang stick together with the Bobby Wasabi code, while working with former Black Dragon trainee, Kim
Most kid shows are awful. Lowest common denominator, form over substance, stereotypes and an obnoxious laugh track to try and force our little under developed funny bones to react and laugh in all the right places at all the unfunny jokes. I get it. It's what works and takes little effort or imagination. This show is particularly bad. My daughter, however, likes it so I indulge her. Until yesterday when I heard Rudy utter this line: "Here's to swimmin' with bow-legged women". No one is a bigger fan of Jaws than me. I'm Pavlovian, in fact, and now have to watch it again for the hundredth time. But this joke (apropos of nothing by the way) about peering between a women's legs is not appropriate for age 7+. Not cool. You are overpaid for this drivel Mr. O'Doherty. Please try and raise the bar. Until then we will be watching Pee Wee's Playhouse!
Whatever happened to quality kid's programming? I grew up in the early 90's, with classics like "The Adventures of Pete & Pete", "Animaniacs" and one of the best TV-series of all time, "Batman: The Animated Series", which was arguably better than any of the films at the time.
Out of curiosity, I watched the pilot and clips from other episodes of the Disney XD sitcom "Kickin' It" the other day. This is the definition of what is wrong with entertainment these days, particularly entertainment aimed at children.
It's one of the most condescending, lazy, and at times even blatantly upsetting children's shows I've ever seen.
The series basically follows Jack, a martial arts expert and the new kid at school. He joins the Bobby Wasabi (Ugh) Katate Accademy along with other social misfits, and the series follows the group, headed by Rudy, an irritating character who is a walking clumsy 20-somethign cliché.
The characters are all lowest-common-denominator clichés. Ex. Jerry, an annoying lone-wolf type who oozes nothing but lines of dialog we've heard hundreds of times before. Or Milton, who along with a father is clearly a fairly racist, geeky depiction of a certain religion.
Ad to that the incompetent writing (the pilot is almost a word-for-word rip-off of "The Karate Kid" at times), and some truly awful "Yellow Face" racism by the character of Bobby Wasabi who pops up from time to time, (I don't care if the character is meant to be Asian or White, he's clearly a white man in Yellowface) and the show actually becomes upsetting to watch for older viewers.
The production is also incredibly lazy. From the aforementioned rip-off scripts, to the DOA jokes, there's no effort put into the production at all.
What happened to quality children's programming? Seriously. This is a 2 out of 10, tops.

http://www.ActorsResourceGuides.com No. Seaford is a fictional city. Because it is located on the Coast of California, it is actually a parody of West Hollywood, California (where Kickin' It is filmed at Hollywood Center Studios, at 1040 N. Las Palmas Ave, in Hollywood, Los Angeles area, California.) Alex Christian Jones (who plays Eddie Jones) did not reprise his role as Eddie in Season 3 or 4. In the last episode, Oh Christmas Nuts, it is implied that he quit the dojo or he got kicked off the dojo by Rudy because he had low karate ratings and wasn't as flexible and ultimately left. Alex actually left because he was busy studying for high school and wanted to focus more on his personal and family life. Alex wanted to live with take care of his grandparents back at Birmingham, Alabama (where he is from). He was NOT kicked off the show!! Prior to his departure, he thanked the cast and crew for having such a wonderful time at Kickin' It. Since his departure, the script was then rewritten for Season 3 to remove Eddie's character from the story. No replacements were selected to replace him. The main reason why they don't mention his disappearance and pretend he never existed (i.e. "Too bad Eddie moved out" or "I wish Eddie would come back to the dojo" the fact that they just NEVER mention him, remains unknown.
Olivia Holt left the show to star in another sitcom called "I Didn't Do It". (she wanted to focus on other shows and move on). The story was rewritten again and the theme song as also changed. It has been confirmed by Olivia Holt that Kim will not be returning for the beginning of Season 4, due to the filming of her new show, I Didn't Do It, but she made a guest appearance in Seaford Hustle and the series finale: The Grandmaster. I think they must've thought Rudy was leaving town for a few years. Either that or they were originally ending the series. It depends. If you watch the action scenes in slow motion, you can often tell if it's the actor or a stunt double. Leo Howard seems to do a lot of his own fight scenes and acrobatics while many of the fights and flips by other characters are done by doubles; although occasionally Olivia Holt will perform a simple flip or fight. No, it has not been explained where Eddie went; the characters don't even mention him.
Just kidding. Alex Jones said that he became busy overtime with his family life such as taking care of his grandparents and his school studies that unfortunately, he could not do both so he chose to leave the show. Following this, the screenplay was rewritten to remove Eddie's character from the story. The new plot had it that Eddie left the dojo, moved out of Seaford and moved back to England where he is from to take care of his ill grandparents. If you noticed, Kim was not sitting with the Black Dragons, so it's safe to assume that she didn't approve of their bullying tactics. She also flashed Jack a smile during the fight, as if to say "Keep going. You're doing great" so it's pretty obvious she had no interest in getting involved. Besides, it's none of her business and it's also implied that she has a crush on Jack. There are plenty of seeds all over his chest. a5c7b9f00b
